Georg Friedrich Händel (IPA: /geːɔrk friːdrɪç hɛndəl/) (engelska: George Frideric Handel) [2], född 23 februari 1685 i Halle an der Saale, död 14 april 1759 i London, var en tysk-engelsk barock tonsättare, berömd för sina operor, oratorier och concerti grossi.

Four years after that, in 1711, Handel used the music again, this time for Rinaldo. This is a beautiful interpretation of the aria by the well-known cellist Hauser. HAUSER - Lascia Ch'io Pianga Neither Rinaldo nor Samson has ever returned to the Met stage, but a Handel opera finally achieved something close to regular repertory status when Giulio Cesare at last had its company premiere in 1988. Again the production was borrowed, this time from English National Opera, but there were some important new trends evident. Handel's Rinaldo was his calling card opera for London. Premiered at the Queen's Theatre in 1711, it was the first major Italian opera written specifically for London.

Rinaldo, now also a captive, is brought before Armida. He angrily demands that Almirena be set free. Against her will, Armida finds herself falling in love with her enemy. She attempts to seduce him by magically transforming herself into Almirena. Rinaldo, suspecting trickery, rejects her.

In 1713 he won… It was an immediate success in a city where Purcell’s death almost twenty years earlier (1695) had left a musical desert. Handel thus became the great musician that London had been waiting for, destined for a great career, and introduced Italian opera to England. Handel wrote Rinaldo in record time-only fifteen The History of Handel's Rinaldo. As I mentioned at the start, Handel's opera, Rinaldo, was the first Italian opera written specifically for an English stage, but what few people know is that Handel spent a great deal of time honing his compositional skills in the years prior to its premiere. Starting in 1703, Handel began composing operas in German while living in Hamburg.
